HOW DID EVELYN MCGEE-COLBERT AND STEPHEN COLBERT MEET?
When he met Evelyn, Stephen was dating someone else, and they had been together for a few years. When his at-the-time girlfriend gave him an ultimatum for them to get married, he said he needed to think about it, so he flew home to mull over things with his mom.
His mother made him realize he was not ready for marriage, and because he had one week to spare, he followed his mother to the Spoleto Festival event, where he met Evelyn in the lobby.
When he arrived at the event, he walked in with his mother on his arm, and Evelyn, who had spotted them, thought to herself:
"That man loves his mother."
Stephen had also spotted Evelyn and wondered who she was. It was love at first sight, and he knew he would have regrets if he did not say hello to her. When their eyes met, they realized they had grown up with each other but had not gone to the same school.

In 2000, they moved to Montclair, New Jersey, and according to reports, their ties to the suburb may have been one of the reasons why "The Late Show" remained in New York City when Stephen became the host.
Once they started living in Montclair, they became active participants in the community. Evelyn was elected president of Montclair Film's board of trustees, while Stephen is on the advisory board.
They have also been dubbed the Montclair Film Festival's "guardian angels," as they helped the event gain more exposure and legitimacy.

"Conversations with your kids. Just having a conversation about what interests them or them asking you about something that interests you."
However, in providing entertainment, he said his kids don't think he is funny despite all the silly things he does to make them laugh.
WHAT IS THE SECRET TO EVELYN MCGEE-COLBERT AND STEPHEN COLBERT'S MARRIAGE?
After over two decades of marriage, Evelyn revealed Stephen is so sexy to her and he is silly. He has also taught her the importance of being silly. She further stated that being silly is essential because it is the opposite of grief.
Evelyn said being silly helps you throw yourself into a moment without care as one cannot consistently maintain their status as a dignified person.
WHO IS EVELYN MCGEE-COLBERT'S HUSBAND?
Stephen Tyrone Colbert was the youngest of 11 children born on May 13, 1964. He was born in Washington, D.C., to a doctor and medical school dean but grew up in Charleston, South Carolina.
The talk show host is deaf in his right ear after a botched operation on a severely perforated eardrum. This killed his childhood dream of being a marine biologist because he could no longer scuba dive without an eardrum.
At ten, Stephen suffered a significant loss in his family. On September 11, 1974, he lost his father and two brothers in a plane crash that killed 72 out of the 82 people on board.
He revealed that he did not fully grieve the loss of his father and brothers until he got into college. He was in bad shape, got very sad about it, and even lost 50 pounds that year.
He went on to study acting and has revealed that he also studied voice and ballet. In 1995, Stephen co-created a sketch comedy show for Comedy Central. The show lasted for two years, and once it ended, he became a correspondent on "The Daily Show."
When he started his show "The Colbert Report" in 2005, he had become the longest-running and most diverse correspondent on "The Daily Show," and in 2015, he became the host of "The Late Show."
When Stephen initially started "The Late Show," he tried to handle everything by himself rather than have a showrunner, negatively impacting his on-air performance. He said:
"It was like going from go-kart to NASCAR in terms of the speed at which everything had to happen."
While he was a micromanager, a former colleague was also concerned that he was doing too much. In addition, Stephen needed to improve his interviewing skills, which he admitted were somewhat lacking because he was used to portraying a character on "The Colbert Report."
He initially thought he would transition from playing a character to interviewing guests with ease, but Stephen realized that not everyone would be willing to share themselves, and he had to deal with it.
The network soon hired a showrunner to take responsibility for the mechanics of producing the show, leaving Stephen Colbert free to think creatively. He soon found his voice, relaxed, and improved his interviewing. A show insider said he became a better listener and a new guy.
